Praying The Our Father

By on April 7, 2020

The life-changing petitions and principles that Jesus taught.  His admonition to praise and worship God…to listen as He reveals His Will… by depending upon His Father to provide for your daily needs… by receiving and giving love and forgiveness…and by walking under the protective hand of God, you will become more childlike and more Christ-like.

The Lord’s Prayer changes EVERYTHING.

“Pray Without Ceasing”

Prayer is not simply talking to God; communicating with Him—a heart to heart conversation; we talk to Him, He talks to us.  The habit of entering into and being in the presence of God who loves us—of being in communion with Him.

We need to take time to learn the ways in which God speaks to us and what His voice sounds like.

Not a question of equal time.  God’s message is far more important than anything we have to say to Him.

Many methods of prayer—vocal, mental, liturgical, devotional, spontaneous,, private, shared, meditative, contemplative, even tears, laughter, painting, singing, dancing, giving, and the circumstances of life itself.  Forms of prayer—praise, thanksgiving, blessing, adoration, petition, and intercession.

The most perfect is the Lord’s Prayer.  It was taught by Jesus Himself.

Our part is the asking, seeking and knocking; God’s part is the giving, revealing and the opening.  Our part is to ask; God’s part is to make sure we receive.  Our part is to seek; God’s part is to make sure we find.  Our part is to knock; God’s part is to open the doors.

The Three Insights — OUR FATHER

The first insight is that we are actually praying to Our Father.

“Anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him, that is, to little children.”

Our second, this Father is the Father of us all.

Who Art in Heaven

Majestic—the third insight.  God transcends every place.

Praying the “Our Father”

FIRST Petition
Praise:  Hallowed Be Thy Name”

SECOND PRINCIPLE (The Second and Third Petitions):  Plan:  “Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done”

God the Father has a plan revealed through his So Jesus in the power of the Spirit for each and every one of His Children.

All life and all holiness comes from the Father through the son by the working of the Holy Spirit.  We are here to live in the Kingdom of God.  To allow God to rule our minds with His wisdom and our hearts with His love is to be under the control of His Spirit.

This marvelous Father-God, has a plan for our lives that He reveals step by step and moment by moment, both individually and collectively.  God’s plan was to send Jesus into the world and into our hearts, enabling us to think, love and act like Jesus.  And the power to do that is given to us through the Holy Spirit and His wisdom, heart and power gifts that He pours into us.

God speaks or reveals His Plan in such a way that we can hear it and follow it.

Jesus never did His own will.  He always listened to,, discerned, and obeyed the voice of His Father.  His mission was to do the Father’s Will.

God speaks all the time, externally through signs, symbols, creations, science, people, Scripture, life experiences, and sacraments.  And internally, God speaks to us through our thoughts, insights, and intuitions.  He enlightens our mind with His thoughts and inflames our hearts with His desires.  He has placed the very Spirit of His son within us so that we can listen to, discern and obey His voice.

THIRD PRINCIPLE (The Fourth Petition):  Provision  “Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread”

Let Me be your God.  Let Me provide for everything.

God wants to provide for our daily needs.  GOD PROVIDES.  “ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE.”

Rely more on the Father and less on money.

FOUR PRINCIPLE (The Fifth Petition):  Personal Forgiveness:  “Forgive Us Our Trespasses As We Forgive Those Who Trespass Against Us”

Let God forgive you and you forgive others.  FORGIVENESS IS GOD’S ANSWER.

FIFTH PRINCIPLE (The Sixth and Seventh Petitions):  Power/Protection “Lead Us Not Into Temptation, But Deliver Us From Evil”

God is our Protector.  He warns us of all impending evil:  spiritually from sin, emotionally from worldly depression and fear, and physically from any danger.  We have to learn how to hear His voice so that we will heed His warnings.

God does not tempt us.  He allows temptation but temptation comes from the world of flesh and from the devil—not from God.

On Earth As It Is In Heaven

This is God’s Plan, that heave would be on earth.  The Father’s Plan, that Heaven would be on earth.  The Father’s Plan, not only to make us sons and daughters of God, but to bring more and more of the protection, beauty, order and love of heaven to earth.  No sickness on earth, no sin.  God’s ultimate plan is for a sinless world.  The deepest desire of God’s Heart is to bring everyone eternal life.
